Sunday Open Thread

There are a few things I have bookmarked in a sort or queue for posts I wanted to tease a commercial. There are some strange things in science as well as unexplained anomalies that interest me like the Baghdad Battery pictured above that I want to look into. Some of them I know about a little already and while looking those up, I've come across some I don't know anything about. As part of my effort to distance myself from more in depth political news, I'm going to look into science news. I know that is something you guys are interested in too so it will hopefully give some cool things to put on the blog. Now that Popular Science directory is up so I can likely find more information than just a web search too.

I'm leaving for a party in 2 hours so that is why I'm not posting that stuff now. I want to be around when you guys comment so we can have a discussion - that is my favorite part of our blog. That post Kerry made about where I live kind of opened my mind to local history and reminded me of a few strange things about Lake Michigan that is known but hasn't been explained or studied and that will probably be my first post.

So what has been going on with you guys? Lisa what have you been up to? You've been kind of quiet lately. How far apart do you guys live? I don't know whether it is the weather (with the exception of today) or maybe the fact that I haven't been following politics, but I sincerely feel a lot less down lately. I'm actually kind of doing stuff. I think you guys should take some time to celebrate where you live a little bit that you don't miss the sun for a solid 3 or 4 months. This is just my speculation but I think not seeing the blue in the sky and the green on the trees really has an affect on people, mental health wise, too. There are scientific studies that have looked at how colors do stuff to our psyche, which is why I always paint my most used rooms a pewter blue.

I'm just wasting time here and rambling as if we were having a conversation, which is kind of crazy because your not here. One more thing, I'm going to write about those jello shots after I submit this and put it in the draft folder on Blogger so I can pull it up tomorrow and just write what people thought of the taste. I still haven't even tasted them. I only had one from a batch that I fucked up last night. It was still good.

Edit: I want to put some feelers out there about the blog too. I think Indigo is gone for good (leave a comment if your not) and so if it is just us, I wanted to ask if we could move the blog to a different addy that is a lot more attractive and a whole hell of a lot easier to use. Look at this and this (password is "ourmovie"), then tell me what you think. I'm actually going to beg: Please can we move it.

Kerry, the snow is like that again today but sort of different. I was just outside smoking a cigarette and next time I go out I'll take the camera and put it up for you guys. Now I'm thinking maybe the snow is always like that but it has always just been around so I never really paid attention. It's lake effect snow so it is big billowy dry clumps of snowflakes falling very slowly like a ripped open pillow. Last time it was just regular snow, so it is somewhat clumpy today and may not photograph well.

Its like billions of those flakes in the photo I posted before, but slightly smaller and all stuck together. It looks like albino cotton candy after it has landed. I'll have to find something dark to put down to contrast the flakes. That other photo they were rounded and full flakes, but these are less jolly. They're long skinny and bare. The difference is like taking a big fluffy Himalayan and throwing it in a tub of water. You know, for living in a place that snows so much, you'd think we would have like 200 words for snow. I mean we do speak in the most descriptive language, don't we?

Another odd thing going on outside this morning are that the animals are all fighting. If they are still all outside I'll take pictures of them too. There are probably like 100 birds and 10 squirrels out there right now. The bluejays (the bully of the little birds) are fighting the cardinals in like 3 different spots and red and grey squirrels are fighting all over the land too. It's strange.

Then to completely change topics, I'm sending a letter to a publicist about possibly doing an interview of sorts to submit to The Sun. I'm nervous but hopeful because their client isn't a celebrity. I think I have a solid idea for doing it all a little different too so that may help me or make me look certifiable. Can I share that with you guys?

Personal/About the Blog/Open Thread

For my friends in the west, I urge you to take a look at the moon after the sun has set (assuming your skies are clear somewhat). I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the moon's orbit and phases, but if you see what I saw tonight, you should be pleasantly amused. The moon is giant here and it is only just a sliver. It might even been an eclipse? It is beautiful though. Is the moon supposed to be capitalized? Is it proper? It is just a moon, not the Moon, right?

I wanted to share 2 songs with you guys. I don't know how to embed audio so it will have to be YouTubed. They are like light rock, but the lyrics and performance is amazing. The band is called Imogen Heap. It is only one girl who also puts stuff out under the name Frou Frou. She is a musician's musician and a ton of her stuff is featured in soundtracks to films, tv, and commercials. So you may recognize her. The only things I can think of off hand is a song she did for Shrek. She redid Holding Out for a Hero, and it was amazing.

About the blog, I am very pleased with what is happening. I'm sure other people will contribute over time, but the more we personally grow with it, the better it will get. We had great posts this week. Then I muddied it up with the videos. I won't do that again unless I have the correct code to put the rest beyond the fold. If you ever come across that code, please shoot me an email. I feel guilty enough for posting these two videos, but they are well worth it. I tend to drift away from politics on the weekends. I'm sorry if that may have rubbed you the wrong way. I just wanted to share those videos with you guys and really, we need a break from politics every once and a while.

As for me, I am working on writing a substantial post on Swine Flu. You may have seen the draft sitting in our account. I've been working on obtainting a video which describes how viruses work (the H's and N's), comparing now with what happened with the last swine flu outbreak, a little avian flu, and the events of 1918. I am also concerned about the politics of the situation and will discus Tamiflu. I want everyone to be as informed as possible before it is time to consider the vaccine. In a perfect world I'd like to run my post by Rita (since she is an RN) before posting it. What do you think, honey? --Is that sexist by the way? I say hun a lot too. I don't have a sexist bone in my body, so please don't take offense at all. I'm just gay. --
